Caesar Salad

Me: I would like the caesar salad with no olives or tomatoes.

Salad Maker: Would you like anything else additional on that?

Me: Nope. Just the croutons, cheese, and dressing.

Salad Maker begins to cut up chicken.

Me: No chicken.

Salad Maker: No chicken???

Me: Nope. Just the croutons, cheese, and dressing.

Salad Maker: What kind of dressing?

Me: Caesar.

On Haircuts, Facebook, The Office, and Pearl Jam

(This is going to be incoherent and rambling and all over the place. Just a warning.)

I got a haircut last night. From Great Clips. You see, I don't really care about hair. I don't to be bothered with a fussy 'do requiring tons of upkeep and product. I am a wash and go kinda gal. Because of that, I could no longer justify spending $50 on a haircut. I can never afford that nor is it something I want to spend money on. So about 2 months ago I went to Great Clips because fuck it. It's cheap. How much damage could they do?

I got my most favorite haircut ever. LOVED IT. I was thrilled.

The problem, though, with Great Clips is that it is entirely a crapshoot who will be doing your hair when you walk in. The next time I went to get a trim, I got a new person. But she also nailed the cut. She almost made it better. Once again, I was thrilled. I had a haircut I liked that would just require minimal trimming trips to a cheap salon.

I went back in last night to get another trim. Just my bangs cut and to clean up the back a bit. NOTHING ELSE.

She chopped 3 inches off of my already short hair. I don't even know how it happened. I told her trim the bangs and clean up the back. The next thing I know, I have a completely different hairstyle.

I was livid.

Once again, I am not someone who really cares about her hair. I want to look nice, but I'm not going to put all of my energy into that. And I know hair grows back and I am totally cool with waiting for that to happen.

But not this time. Because she changed the style. The style I loved. And I don't know if I will ever get it back.

Yeah, yeah, #firstworldproblems and all that. But I'm mad. Someone with my round face does not need this round hairstyle. Ugh. So upset. It's gonna be a long month before this grows out and I can get it fixed.

I miss you tendrils...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A friend of mine posted an article on Facebook about the annoyances of Facebook posts and what types of posts are annoying and what you should say and shouldn't and holy shit who the fuck cares? It's a free social media website that you use to talk about what's going on with you and things you find interesting. If you don't like what someone posts, don't bother with it.

Why are people so weird about this?

As a musician who has to promote herself, it makes me feel like such an asshole - for lots of reasons. I suddenly feel like people see me post something related to what I do and roll their eyes and groan and say "god she is so annoying".

But what bothers me the most is that the people I am friends with on Facebook I consider to be friends. They have different levels of friendship. Either they are good friends I hang out with on a daily basis or maybe old friends from high school. Or co-worker friends. Or family. Or friendly musician folk who do they same self-promotion in their feeds. Either way, I don't see the difference in posting something on Facebook along the lines of "Hey! I got a new job! Yay me!" or "I just recorded this new song!" These are things going on in my life. Either I can post about it on Facebook, or when I see you in person, I can tell you then, which I will. But if it bothers you so much to see a sentence about it on Facebook, how do you think I'm going to feel the next time we are together chatting about our lives? What is the difference? I don't see one.

If everyone stopped posting on Facebook all of the things people bitch about, Facebook wouldn't exist. And if that's how you want it, then maybe you shouldn't be on Facebook.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been watching the original UK version of The Office. It's good, obviously. I watched bits of it before but never finished the whole thing. But I'm just fascinated by Martin Freeman. I'm so obsessed with Sherlock and him as John Watson that it's hard to see him as Tim on The Office. But Tim also shares so many of Watson's characteristics - though I don't think that was intentional. I think that's just Martin Freeman coming through. It's also jarring because I am so use to Jim from the US The Office that I can't help compare. I kind of like Jim more. Also, they really made Jim look like Tim. Same haircut and outfit.

Also the UK one is so crude and really rude to women on a whole other level that I find it takes me out of things quite a bit. Michael Scott is terrible with women and says terrible things, too. But on the UK version, it comes from everywhere that I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a joke anymore. And the women do nothing back - whereas Pam and Angela would totally put someone in their place - or at the very least looked mad about it. It's just weird.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This morning I heard the new Pearl Jam single for the first time. It gave me a great case of the sads, and not in a good way. It sounds like a song Diane Warren would have written for Keith Urban. What have they done? Why are they doing this? I don't understand. It's just awful. And not even in a oh, they are an aging rock band losing their edge kind of way. It's just a completely different sound and doesn't make any sense for them to go this way. It makes even less sense than Eddie Vedder's ukulele solo album - which I LOVED.

I'm not even going to post a video of it because it makes me so sad. You'll have to go find it for yourselves.

Random Observation

I went to a comedy club Tuesday night to see my friend Jenn Schaal perform. Before the show, the club shows a montage of life in the Twin Cities of Minnesota: various city skyscapes, musicians, clips from comedy shows, random non-Minnesota related movie clips - all to the sound track of Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" because, well, because of course. Oh, hey, welcome to Minnesota! Did you know Prince is from here??? OMG, can you believe it???? And he STILL lives here!

But that's not the point of this post.

Naturally, I tuned out for a second because, as much as I love Prince, I get so sick of Minnesota name dropping him ALL The Time. Then the first note of the screeching guitar solo begins and my heart fluttered and I got all excited because I thought, for just a second, they were about to play "Cover Girl" by New Kids on the Block - because the song starts with the exact same guitar solo screech. For reals. A lot went through my thoughts in that second, like:

Huh, this is so cool and random.
I am so excited to hear this song right now!
Still, very weird and I'm not getting the connection.

Finally landing on, oh, wait....this is "Let's Go Crazy". Yep. That makes much more sense.

I would post both songs to show you proof, but Prince is very anti-internet and so there is nothing I could post that wouldn't be pulled right away.

But I can post New Kids on the Block's "Cover Girl". You're welcome.

I Can No Longer Use A Telephone

The other day I got a call from a friend of mine. I had no idea how to answer. I could see this person's name, so I knew who was calling. They were calling my cell phone, so they knew I would be the one to answer. Because of this, I had no idea how to answer. Do I just say 'hello' like the old days? Do I address the person with "hi, (person's name)"? Do I answer in some goofy way like "what up?" or "hey you"?

I don't know.

Texting and social media have destroyed my phone skills.

This goes for when I call someone, too - which I try to avoid at all costs. When I call someone, do I say "hey, (person's name)" when they answer? Do I have to tell them who I am? What if I'm not sure if the number is a cell phone - do I ask for them when they answer?

How do phone conversations work these days???

It doesn't help that my iPhone sucks as a phone. I don't know how many times I've been talking and pressed my face too hard against the screen and accidentally hit the End Call button and hung up.

This inability to use the phone has now crept into my work life. If I have to call someone, I freak out. Well, okay, freak out is a strong word. Panic a little, maybe? I literally cannot form words when I'm on the telephone and it doesn't help that my desk is completely out in the open and so everyone can hear me try to navigate a conversation on the telephone.

Is this the same for everyone? Is it just me? When I see people having conversations on a cell phone, I just think why? You can just text them. And then I stare at them and think...how?

Bitten

This post is just to say:

Holy shit I was eaten alive by mosquitos this weekend. The itching, it is torture.

The need to itch my lumpy feet kept me up most of the night. I moved to the couch because I couldn’t stop moving around and didn’t want to keep the husband up.

Not cool, mosquitos. Not cool.

Gloria Estefan is in My Brain

Somehow Gloria Estefan’s musical catalogue has infiltrated its way into my brain and presses play almost every morning when I get in the shower. I don’t know where this comes from. It’s not like I wake up to Lite FM on the alarm clock every morning. It’s not like I have any of her songs on any of my musical devices. And it’s not like I go to bed thinking about her at night.

Yet, multiple times a week, I get up, step into the shower, and suddenly I’m singing one of her many hits from the 80s. The most popular track is the uber-power ballad “Don’t Want to Lose You”.

It shows up in different sections. Usually the first line: “Sometimes it’s hard” but other times I mind goes straight into the big chorus “I don’t want to lose you now!”.

This morning it was “1-2-3-4”.

I haven’t thought about this song in years. I have no idea how it found its way into my brain. If I was counting, I would think the more current “1234” by Feist would be the song that would take over. But no. It was Gloria Estefan once again.

Other songs of hers that pop up in the mornings: “Bad Boys” and the big song “Coming Out of the Dark”. Remember that song? Remember how she got into a horrible bus accident and was almost paralyzed, but then she came out of the dark and could walk and dance again?

Not sure what she’s up to these days. Has she regrouped with the Miami Sound Machine? Has she aged well? I don’t know. I suppose I could look it up, but I’m really not all that interested.

But, I think one of these vocal talent shows should pick her up. If I remember, from the days I used to watch those shows, her songs are quite popular with the contestants.

Or maybe she’s been busy creating some sort of mind control device that makes it so I wake up to her songs every morning.

ERMAHGERD

The title of this post has creeped into my lexicon and I cannot stop saying it. It’s from an internet meme that started somewhere I don’t even know. Another goofy phrase posted onto random pictures that, for whatever reason, makes me crack up every time.

Then, over the weekend while have drinks with some friends, one of them brought it up and then we just didn’t stop and now it is so stuck in my brain that I found myself walking around the grocery store yesterday thinking and giggling to myself “ERMAHGERD AVECADERS! ERMAHGERD BENANERS!” I even found myself using it in a couple of conversations I had with people who had no idea what I was talking about. I need to cool it because I sound like a crazy lady.

Speaking of crazy, I kind of feel like I’m heading that route lately. I’ve just been so busy and so many things are buzzing through my brain at all times that I’m never quite sure what’s going on. There are some pretty important things that need to be dealt with, but I am so tunnel vision focused on the CD release show and album promotion that I can’t really deal with anything else. Mainly because it’s the one thing that has an obvious end date so I know that once the show has happened, I can move on to other things. So,  I’ve had to set those things aside, except they won’t just sit aside. Instead they are in my brain constantly poking me saying “Don’t forget! Don’t forget!”

I’ve got job decisions to make, bills to pay. I need to find a place to live.  My dad is suddenly falling a lot and hurting himself on a weekly basis and possibly living in a not safe environment.  My normally perfectly healthy nephew suddenly is having kidney failure. I’m quite certain I have some underlying health issues that I should probably address. My house is falling apart.

Each month, I tell myself I just have to get through this month and next month things will slow down and return to normal. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. I was looking towards September, but now I might not have a job anymore then. Then I tell myself, well, if I’m not working I can get so many other things done. But, of course, I need a job because I need money and health insurance and just the general sense of worth that comes from being employed.

Sigh.

Whine.

ERMAHGERD.

I've Got Bruises On My Chin For You

Take a look just to the bottom right of my lower lip.

Ignore the dark bag under my eye. I'm very tired.

See that odd discoloration? That is the bruise that caused the awful dream I had Wednesday night. Sure, it's not big and purple. But it's still unfortunate and in a spot just bad enough where it looks like I'm walking around with food on my face. Or dirt. And it really looks much more vibrant in person.

I have no idea where it came from. The only thing I can think of is that I tend to sit at the computer with my chin cupped in my hand and that is the exact spot where my thumb rests. Maybe my iron levels are low and I am bruising easily again. Being that I'm a vegetarian (and a very bad one in that I don't eat enough veggies for being a vegetarian), I don't get enough iron in my diet. When I first stopped eating meat, I bruised if someone brushed up against me. I recall walking around one summer with my arms covered in little bruises. I looked like a domestic abuse victim, or a junkie.

But over 13 years on, I've figured out how to be a proper vegetarian. But this holiday season and being sick and sad for the past month has caused me to eat very poorly - and obviously my body is starting to show it in a variety of ways.

Like random bruises.

I've Got Nothing

Seriously, I’ve had nothing to say for the past week. I have been racking my brain for things to write about and nothing is there. Nothing.

I have topics set aside for times like these, but my desire to write is just not there this week. So why force it (like I’m doing now)?

It is my Friday today, though. I have tomorrow off because I have a show tonight and I’m playing late and really don’t want to have to think about how I need to be at work at 8am while I’m trying to perform at my best.

I am looking forward to my time off tomorrow because I get to spend some of it with my dearest friend, Kimi, who got married on Monday. I wish I could have been there to share in the moment, but work gets in the way. This is life. And sometimes life is pretty stupid.

But sometimes it’s awesome. And her joy and happy newlywed bliss is a nice reminder that really awesome things happen sometimes.

Things just seem kind of different now. It’s a weird feeling. Is there maybe a shift happening in the atmosphere of my life? Fingers crossed (as long as it’s positive).

And so, I leave you with this thing that is just awesome that I stole off the internets:

Funny Things (To Me)

Alright. Time to lighten things up around here.

There are some things that strike me as hilarious - for reasons I can’t explain - every time I see/hear them. They may not be funny to you, but gosh darnit, they are funny to me.

1. Close All the Tabs?

There is a blog I love called Hyperbole and a Half. Allie Brosh is a super funny gal with super funny drawing capabilities. This post in particular had me cracking up, especially the repeated “Clean ALL the things!?” (Honestly, you’re going to have to read that post to “get it”).

So, at work I have to use Internet Explorer. I have to. The database I work in only works through IE. Often, I have multiple tabs open. Every day when I shut down my computer, it asks me if I want to “close all the tabs?” and every day I think of Hyperbole and a Half and every day I chuckle.

2. Just Clap Your Hands

The company I work for is big on recycling. We have signs up in each kitchen detailing what can be recycled and where to put recycling and all that stuff.

When I first started working here someone put a post-it underneath the Bottles and Cans header on one of these signs. It read: Just clap your hands.

Every time I went into the kitchen, I giggled about this. Alas, it has long been taken down.

If you don’t know why this is funny, shame on you for not knowing your mid-nineties alternative all-stars. Watch below:

3. Dirty Dancing Comic

I discovered this comic strip on the internets a long time ago. It is now posted in my cubicle for daily laughter.

4. James Hetfield Shopping

I mean, come on:

5. The Misfits

Back in high school I hung out with a group of guys who introduced me to music that as a teenage girl from a small town I might never had heard or given a chance. One of these bands is The Misfits and one of these guys we affectionally called Twid. The other two guys we will call C and N.

C and N used to use Twid as sort of a punching bag. We all did. He took it well. I think he secretly liked the attention. He was a big dude, so he could certainly handle himself if he ever got fed up with it.

Being that we lived in a small town with nothing to do, we spent a lot of time just driving around and listening to music. C and N used to love to make up new lyrics to songs. But my two favorite songs they would mess with were the following Misfits songs:

“Horror Business”

“Where Eagles Dare”

All they would do is change the pronouns in these songs to say Twid, but for some reason it was particularly funny in these songs. So lines like:

“you don’t go in the bathroom with me” would be “you don’t go in the bathroom with Twid” and “I’ll put a knife right in you, I’m warning you” would be “he’ll put a knife right in you, Twid’s warning you” and “I ain’t no goddamn son of a bitch” would then be “Twid ain’t no goddamn son of a bitch” and so on and so on.

Even typing that, I started to giggle. Maybe you had to know Twid. Or maybe you had to be a 15 year old girl riding around in cars with boys being stupid.

6. Re-Tard

There is a scene early in the movie The Hangover when the guys are driving to Vegas. Zack Galifianakis is talking about Rain Man and he calls him a re-tard. Not a retard (pronounced retard), but a re-tard (pronounced ra-tard – accent on the second syllable. I have no idea how to write that to get the pronunciation across). After seeing this movie in the theater, I laughed myself to sleep thinking about this line. Still do sometimes.

7. You’re Mom’s House

I was using Foursquare to check in somewhere once and one of my location options was “your mom’s house”. I thought that was the funniest thing ever. So clever, yet so stupid. Basically, I will laugh extensively at any sort of “your mom” jokes.

8. Frank Reynolds

Frank Reynolds is a character on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia played by Danny Devito and he is funny. He’s always calling his ex-wife a whore or random women whores. Expect, he doesn’t say it like whore, he says “hoo-ore”.

I laugh every time.

It's That Time Again?

The Minnesota State Fair kicks off tomorrow. I swear this year has gone by in a flash. All of these things that are coming around again feel like they just happened last week. I mean, the fair is here! The fair is the unofficial end of summer. I love the fair, but when it ends, it’s September and September is basically fall just like June is supposed to be summer when neither of those statements are true.

September provides Minnesota with some of its best weather. It’s a beautiful time of the year. Yet, by the end of it, the leaves will be changing and the nights will requires sweaters and will begin much earlier than now.

But I shouldn’t dwell on it because if I do, I will curl up in a ball and cry after stuffing myself with Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs because really wants the point? Another winter? Are you kidding? Already? I. Just. Can’t.

So instead, I will look forward to the fair. Once again, I am working tomorrow morning. First day of the fair. It’s the best day. Everything is fresh. The bathrooms are clean. People are happy. It’s supposed to be a beautiful day.

And I’ll be taking the afternoon off of work to enjoy the fair. Cheese on a stick, mashed potatoes, garlic fries, corn on the cob, cheese curds, ice cream, and beer.

Cannot wait.

Invent A New Flavor Of Ice Cream

One of my favorite blogs is Yes and Yes. If you don’t read the Yes and Yes blog, you should. It’s uplifting, informative and fun. So go read it.

Each year, Yes and Yes puts out a calendar. Scattered throughout are fun things to do on random days. So today it is Invent A New Flavor Of Ice Cream Day. So my new ice cream flavor is…………

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Fat Tire

One random Friday night I was drinking a Fat Tire (my favorite beer) and I got a little snacky. I grabbed a raspberry out of the fridge and was amazed at how deliciously it mixed with the flavor of Fat Tire. On another random night, the same thing happened (this is my life) and I just happened to have a bar of dark chocolate lying around. Once again, Fat Tire was an excellent accompaniment.

I already love chocolate covered fruit, so there is no doubt in my mind that raspberries and dark chocolate would go together wonderfully.

Yes, Dark Chocolate Raspberry Fat Tire Ice Cream. Somebody make it happen.

Yes, It's Hot

Minnesotans love to be the center of attention – though we’d never admit it. Yet every time we end up on some list of Gayest, Bike Friendliest, Hipster-est, or even St. Paul ending up as the 24th worst dressed city, we cannot stop talking about it. Ever. It comes up all the time. People make really lame jokes about it. “Look at that guy riding that total hipster bicycle…yeah, he’s probably gay, too. Ha Ha Ha! You, know…because of all those polls we’re on”

Hipster bicycle.

Bands come to town and throw in the obligatory Prince cover in their set - and the crowd goes nuts because Prince is from here and we love that all these famous people recognize that. Like it gives us some worth that Prince is from here and - that unlike most of the other celebrities born in this state – he continues to stay here.

This is what a real Minnesotan looks like. Don't you believe that Fargo movie.

But if there is one thing that rises above all things when it comes to what Minnesotans love to talk about, it’s the weather. My goodness. It’s either too cold, too hot, too snowy, too cloudy, too rainy, too humid, too dry…we never have perfect days here. It is never 75 and sunny for more than an hour on some random afternoon in June. Well, not too random. It will most definitely be a work day. We don’t get nice weather on the weekends.

And if there is one thing that I hate talking about more than anything, it’s the weather. “Cold enough for ya?” “Hot enough for ya?” Ugh. God. That is why I do whatever I can to not talk to strangers. I go outside to catch my bus, the headphones go on, a book comes out. Do.Not.Talk.To.Me.

So, lately it has been very hot here. And if you bring it up to anyone, they will gladly tell you about how our dew point is higher than the Amazon. And for one moment over the last couple of days, we were the hottest place in the world. THE WORLD!!! Did you know it’s warmer here than it is in Arizona right now? Isn’t that crazy? People think it’s so cold here all the time, well they should come here now. That would show ‘em.

Our sun is hotter than yours.

Us poor Minnesotans, though. It’s just too hot. I mean, you can’t do anything in this weather. We’re a hearty folk. We like it hovering around 65 – as long as the sun is shining. Of course, you got to get a good rain in every now and then. Good for the grass.

But 108 degrees!!!! That’s almost a 140 degree temperature change from the coldest day in January!!!! And, yeah, that’s pretty crazy. Most places don’t get that kind of range. Which is why we should be enjoying this heat. We should be baking in it. We should thank Mother Nature for treating us to this warmth. Because it does get cold here. It gets ridiculously cold here. And soon enough, sooner than you like to think about it, it’s going to be cold again. And everyone will be taking to their Facebook pages to remember the days last summer when we had a stretch of 100+ degree weather and we could stand outside in nothing and still be hot, but now we are bundled from head to toe and are still freezing and isn’t it just so crazy to live in Minnesota?

Ah, geez, look at me talking about the weather.

Like

I’ve forgotten how to show appreciation for things with the written word. I blame Facebook.

I’ve noticed this happening more frequently. I was sent an email from someone with very happy news. I opened it up and was very happy for her. I reached for my mouse and found myself lost looking for that one button application to say how happy I am for her:

But, of course, it wasn’t there. This is email.

I looked around some more, certain that there must be some function in my email that will tell this person how happy I am for them without having to actually say “I’m so happy for you.”

But there was none to be found.

I clumsily started typing out, what I hope came to be, full sentences showing my acknowledgement of her excitement and my delight for her – all the while wishing that I could have just gone for a simple “Like”. Not because I don’t actually care or that I only “liked” the news. But because that little “like” button has grown to mean more than just the dictionary definition of “like”:

Like: verb (used with object)

  1. to take pleasure in; find agreeable or congenial
  2. to regard with favor; have a kindly or friendly feeling for (a person, group, etc.)

It’s really become a much grander idea. I click “like” when people have babies, win awards, get new jobs, fix broken appliances, and are just plain happy with something they’ve accomplished. Not that all of those things are comparable with each other, but “like” is versatile and I feel that when I click it, it encompasses the correct amount of pleasure one should feel with such an announcement as the one posted.

I don’t always just click “like”. I will sometimes extend my liking to the comments and add a word or two if I have something additional to add that would be of use to the poster. I know that if someone just clicks the “like” button on a particularly jovial posting of mine that I don’t take offense.

And now after all this posting of the word “like” it has lost all meaning to me.

Like Like Like Like Like Like Like Like

That doesn’t even look like English anymore.

Happy 5th Of July!

Yes, it’s the 5th of July, which means that stupid “holiday” where people light explosives off in their backyards all day and night has come and gone.

I hate the 4th of July. I know I’m supposed to be all patriotic and loving America and showing my love of America off by making as much noise as possible, but we all know that’s not what this holiday is about. No one shooting fireworks off at 1am is thinking about the founding fathers and our independence. They’re thinking “Look, pa, I made it go boom!”

And, when designating the 4th of July as a holiday – knowing full well that the festivities really don’t begin until the sun goes down – why did they not give the next day off, as well? I mean, you don’t get New Year’s Eve off, you get the next day. You get two days for Thanksgiving for reasons I don’t understand, but just one for Independence Day – and sometimes it’s some random Wednesday. What are you supposed to do with that?

My head feels like I’m under water today, thanks to the serious lack of sleep last night. We’re talking maybe 2 hours tops – and not consecutively. That’s total. That’s 20 minutes here and there.

I suppose I can’t blame it entirely on the fireworks. My old dog wasn’t sleeping last night, either. His pacing and crying kept me up, as well.

I also suppose I can stop whining now.

I just hope the neighborhood used up it’s arsenal last night and tonight the evening will go back to normal.

Heartbreaker Of The Day

I love animals. My heart just swells when I see a happy dog walking down the road. I always say hello to animals I pass along the way. I'm kind of crazy that way.

So imagine the indistinguishable sounds that came out of me when I saw this video of a dog running around on 4 prosthetic paws.

I guess he was left out in the cold and abandoned and his feet became stuck to some ice. They had to be amputated.

My mind cannot comprehend how people can be so cruel.

103

Today, the temperature is the hottest it's been in 23 years. 103 is the recorded high for today, but my car said 102 degrees:

23 years is a really long time. We're talking 1988. People who are legally able to drink alcohol today weren't even born yet. That's crazy.

And that makes me old.

On this day in 1988, I was a couple of months shy of my 9th birthday and just leaving the 3rd grade.

I lived in Waconia, MN in a 3rd floor tiny apartment with my dad across the street from the elementary school I attended. My mom had died 2.5 years prior. Dad worked a lot. I fended for myself a lot. This meant I skipped school a lot. That was my 8 year old life.

I loved watching Lassie and Mr. Ed on Nickelodeon. I was about a year away from discovering New Kids on the Block. I loved Michael Jackson's Bad album and Weird Al's parody, Even Worse. I'm fairly certain I had this poster on my bedroom wall:

And I didn't even like Kirk Cameron.

I remember my 9th birthday party. I had a sleepover with about 5 girls from school. I vaguely remember sitting with the lights off with something that glowed in the dark. I want to say it was a hula hoop, but that seems weird.

Bush Sr. was the VP and won the Presidential election later that year.

Celebrities born in 1988:
Haley Joel Osment - April 10th
Adele - May 5th
Princess Beatrice - August 8th

Top 5 singles of 1988:
"Faith" - George Michael
"Need You Tonight" - INXS
"Got My Mind Set On You" - George Harrison
"Never Gonna Give You Up" - Rick Astley
"Sweet Child O' Mine" - Guns N' Roses

Rain Man was the top grossing film of the year and also won the Oscar.
