Lake Harriet Bandshell 9-5-15

Still buzzing after a super fun show at the Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis. It was a perfect end to our summer of shows.

All week long the weather report said it was going to storm. Then it was no storms, but 90+ degrees and incredibly humid...which it was. But the breeze from the lake turned it into a very pleasant evening for an outdoor show. I was certain I would sweat buckets and I remained fairly dry, so that was just the icing on the cake. : )

There was a really great crowd. Highly exceeded my expectations for a Labor Day Weekend/State Fair time outdoor show. It might have been the most people we ever played for.

I seriously had so much fun.

 Laura played a solo song!

And with that, our summer of shows is over. Now, we take a break while I go get my scary surgery and then recover from that and then we can start planning for the future.

331 Club 8-25-15

There are so many things I want to write about. My brain is swimming with overloaded thoughts that would really love to pour out onto a page, but time has not been my friend these days. It's been over a week and I still haven't written about the final show of our 331 Club residency!

We closed out our residency at the 331 Club on 8/25 with a bit of whimper. Attendance was light. But, we played at 11:30pm on a Tuesday night, so what are you gonna do? It's hard for people to go out then. We had a good set, though! We even got the keys up on stage with us so Laura could play them. It was a tight fit, but we managed.

Eric Fifteene of Party of One kicked off the night with a solo set. I've known Eric and his band for 17 years (I think). This was the first time we shared a stage. There are so many of these bands from back in the early 00s that I loved that I'm now finally getting to play with. It's weird.

Eric played one of my favorite songs of his, "Skydiver" - which he never plays. So I was quite happy. Also, I learned that it's really called "Sky Dive"....but whatever.

Davis III played second. You may recognize the guy on guitar as Shawn, who also plays guitar in my band. Davis III is Shawn's band. They're entirely instrumental and very very good. It was nice to spread the band love around a bit and highlight this group.

And then there was us!

I already felt lost this Tuesday without a show to play. I even stayed up late because, I think it just felt natural.

I broke another string on stage on my new guitar. It was during the last song this time, so not too terrible. I did change all of the strings on the guitar this week and it was a nightmare. It has these weird tuning pegs that I didn't notice when I bought it. I seriously had a breakdown changing them. Here's hoping I did it right and they stay together for our next show this Saturday!

That was our residency. I'm sad it's over. It's just nice to play every week.

We have one more show before I take a forced 6 week break for my surgery. It's at the Lake Harriet Bandshell this Saturday 9/5 at 7:30pm. It's free. All Ages. All that fun stuff.
